Land Rover confirmed to the media that their iconic Land Rover SUV , Defender , will soon retire . Defender was first assembled in 1948, up to now more than two million units have been spread all over the world .
" Defender will be discontinued in the middle of this decade due to legislative issues , " said a spokesman for Land Rover SUV without explaining in more detail , Automotive News Europe , Friday ( 11/10/2013 ) .
The new generation Defender successor replacement being prepared , but still no information about the name , detail , or the time of the launch of the model .
Land Rover ever show DC1000 Concept at Frankfurt Auto Show 2011 as a forerunner to the new Defender , but the big iron horse project has been canceled . Land Rover is now looking for a possibility to use the more expensive aluminum material to be placed on the platform of the Range Rover .
According to observers, the Defender replacement will not be sold at least until early 2019, the reason being the limited production capacity and other business issues .
