Electra's belonged to General Motor

That is a smart marketing move by GM, by retaining the name of power and historical resonance. Surely, it would increase the attractiveness of the latest model with the name of 'Electra'.

The name "Electra" is not a new name in the automotive world. The name was associated with a variety of great cars built by GM's Buick sub-brands between 1959 and 1980.

However, GM has recently filed a trademark name "Electra" to be used in future models. The name was subtly hinted for electric cars.

Thus the name "Electra" will be a model of eco-friendly after Chevrolet Volt for the premium class. Chevy Volt with Buick as his fancy.

Another speculation that the name will be used for Tesla Model S will compete with the latest luxury sedans in the U.S.. It may be the latest model will be based on 2013 Chevy Malibu with front-wheel drive, it is not worth challenging Tesla.
