"By partnering with Mazda, we will work closely with leaders in the field of rear-wheel drive vehicle architecture to produce an attractive and stylish roadster according to the tradition of Alfa Romeo," Marchionne said.

Fiat, was quoted by Reuters, had long been looking for automotive partners after taking over Chrysler. Fiat wanted a partner that is a manufacturer of Asia. It is necessary to achieve their global sales target of 6 million in 2014.
