Yes, David managed to combine the iconic car with future technology. He called Zelectric Beetle and prove that the cars are still very popular iconic can easily be treated, no hassle, more toned, and even eco-friendly.




In theory it is quite easy. Uninstall the old engine, and replacing it with an electric motor package. But it was not that simple. As reported by the New York Times (7/21/2014), David had to adjust everything to support the new performance.

The electric motor
First step, the 1958 VW Beetle alerts fitted lithium-ion battery and electric motor plus drive. That way, the car can go up to 144 kph. The distance is quite far, achieving 180 miles on a single charge fully.

David had to modify the engine room located at the rear of the car in order to fit with the new power source. More power to change the brake device should make it more capable of gripping. The suspension was also improved to withstand the additional weight by 136 kg.



Interestingly, claimed to be the first electric car, David managed to combine the new engine with the transmission of the original Beetle 4-acceleration. Not intended to move teeth, but to increase the power coming out of the electric motor.

Not to mention the cost of the conversion process, but it is estimated at more than USD 50 million. With the advance of old school but already carry the future of technology, there is nothing better to drive it with pride.
