Chevrolet Equinox Hydrogen for military

Honolulu, - hydrogen fuel cell system developed by GM at Equinox is known for its Project Driveway and started since late 2007. Hydrogen is converted into electrical energy and then used to drive an electric car. This SUV can travel 322 miles on a single charge and only takes 5 minutes to fill it repeated. And more importantly these vehicles produce zero emissions or pollution-free.

"Through this vehicle will provide military data and experience necessary to determine the application of fuel cell technology in the future," said Charles Freese, GM Executive Director of Global Fuel Cell Activities.

Three U.S. Army forces (land, sea and air) in the Pacific received 16 units of the Chevy Equinox hydrogen fuel cell as an operational vehicle, (23/2). Sport utility vehicle (SUV) was purchased by institutions in the three branches, the Army Tank Automotive Research Development Engineering Center (TARDEC), Office of Naval Research and Air Force Research Laboratories (ONR) and Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL).

Use of this hydrogen SUV as part of a U.S. military project aimed at reducing dependence on petroleum. The third force will evaluate the vehicle, to determine whether the vehicle qualifies as a military operation? "Hopefully, this hydrogen-fueled vehicles could help the U.S. military operations in the Pacific, the challenges of energy security and strengthen our energy independence," said Lieutenant-General Francis J Wiercinski, commander of U.S. Army Pacific.
