SKYACTIV-G engine already used on the newer models that came out in 2011 and was able to produce good fuel economy and responsive performance. To achieve high compression ratio gasoline engine is very difficult because it generally tends to make the engine knocking (ngelitik).
Mazda had recently found that the oxidation reaction occurs at low temperature before the engine is running, when the compression ratio is at a high point. The reaction then results in a reduction knocking and more power.
